You know that moment when you look back at your old social media posts and think, “Damn, I’ve come a long way”? Well, grab a cup of tea (or your beverage of choice – mine’s still alcohol-free, 2,460 days and counting), because we need to catch up.
Back in 2020, I started this blog as a space to dump my thoughts about being a single parent, a Black woman navigating life with mental health challenges, and someone trying to piece together sobriety one day at a time. I was raw, unfiltered, and honestly? Just trying to figure shit out.
1. That Self-Discovery Journey? It Leveled Up
Remember when I wrote that I couldn’t define my purpose yet? Well, the universe had plans. Big ones. I’m now the founder of As Told By Anya Ltd. and Inner Child Curative Inc. – two ventures that literally emerged from the healing work I’ve been doing. Turns out, when you start healing yourself, you accidentally figure out how to help others heal too.
2. From Blog Writer to University Student
Plot twist: This over-40 warrior decided to hit the books. Why? Because representation matters, and sometimes you need to be the change you want to see. Between managing my businesses and studying, I’m living proof that it’s never too late to chase those dreams you packed away.
3. The Family Grew (Fur Babies Edition)
My three fur babies? They multiplied. We’re now a happy chaos of 2 dogs, 2 cats, 2 turtles, and a rabbit. My home is literally becoming the peaceful sanctuary I always needed – just with more pet hair and feeding schedules.
4. The Biggest Plot Twist
Remember that natural hair and body products venture I mentioned? It evolved into something much deeper. I’m now combining traditional Jamaican healing wisdom with modern wellness practices, creating a bridge between my heritage and today’s holistic health needs. Watch this space – my upcoming e-book “The Cure Starts Within: A Natural Remedy Guide from the Naturalist Arcanum Garden” is about to drop some serious knowledge.
5. Still Real, Just More Focused
I still use the “F” word like punctuation (sorry, not sorry), still navigate my ADHD and autism with my trusty color-coded calendar system, and still believe in taking everything one day at a time. The difference? Now I’m doing it while running three businesses, leading an Afrocentric study group, and working towards a $400K goal that younger me wouldn’t have dared to dream about.
WHAT HASN’T CHANGED
- My commitment to authenticity
- The belief that family (blood or chosen) comes first
- My faith in a higher power
- The understanding that healing is messy, necessary, and ongoing
WHAT’S NEXT
This blog is evolving, just like I am. Expect more content about:
- Holistic healing through a cultural lens
- Mental health advocacy for BIPOC communities
- Business building while managing multiple conditions
- And yes, still some raw, unfiltered thoughts about life, because some things never change
To my OG readers who’ve been here since 2020 – thank you for growing with me. To the newcomers – welcome to the journey. Grab your favorite comfort beverage, get cozy, and let’s continue this conversation.
Because if there’s one thing these past five years have taught me, it’s that our stories matter. All of them. The messy parts, the victory laps, and everything in between.
Stay tuned, stay authentic, and most importantly, stay you.
With gratitude and still keeping it real,
Anya
P.S. Yes, I still knit, and crochet too. Some habits are too good to break. 🧶
